On July 24th Apple released the fourth betas of iOS 11, macOS High Sierra, watchOS and tvOS 11 to developers for testing purposes, two weeks after rolling out the third beta.
macOS High Sierra Developer Beta 4 can be downloaded and installed via Mac App Store, and those users who have installed the previous beta before can perform a direct update on their Macs. The 4th public beta is supposed to release a few days after the develop beta. The major new features involved in macOS High Sierra are new Apple File System, HEVC video playback, Metal 2, Photos and Safari upgrades, and more.
Photos adds a new sidebar for quick access to editing tools or photo albums. New filters and editing options like Curves and Selective Color are available too. It also adds support for third party editing software like Photoshop and Pixelmator. That means you can directly open a photo in Photoshop from Photos app, and the changes made in Photoshop can be saved in your Photos library. New Memories categories are introduced too.
Safari in the upcoming macOS High Sierra is said to greatly improve the speed of browsing. The new features introduced in Safari can prevent cross-site data tracking (Intelligent Tracking Prevention) and also stop unwanted video/audio from auto-playing.
Besides, the Siri has a more natural voice. Spotlight support the feature to search for airline information. iCloud, Face Time and Demo also get some improvements.
Normally the beta is mainly about bug fixes and feature improvements. Yet in iOS 11 beta 4, there are some new changes about the interface. The highly anticipated change is the completely redesigned Control Center. Other refinements includes New icons for Notes, Contacts, and Reminders, New ‘Touch ID to open [app]’ message when tapping notifications, New countdown UI for screen recording, New splash page for Photos, etc.
watchOS 4 brings a new, redesigned dock interface, a new News app, enhanced music and fitness experience, individual account transferring, Apple Pay Cash and some.
tvOS 11 will brings new features including Home screen synchronization, automatic switching between light/dark mode, Focus API improvements, full AirPods support, AirPlay 2 and more. To install tvOS 11 beta, registered developers can connect the Apple TV to a computer with a USB-C cable and then install the update using iTunes.
macOS High Sierra is available for both registered developers and public beta testers. And it is likely to have several updates before the expected public release in this fall.
