Some of you may prefer to open specific links with different browsers, or send emails with different clients. Yet it could be a little troublesome to copy URL links and then paste to the address bar each time. Well, Bumpr can help solve this problem, since this app lets you easily manage and switch between multiple browsers and email clients.
Bumpr is a relatively new macOS app that allows users to decide which app to open links with, and it can work with both web links and mail links. When you click on a URLs or email link, it could become active, and a compact menu will pops up immediately, providing available browser or mail apps to choose from. Like this:
For me, I have Safari, Chrome and Firefox as my browsing options, and Mac’s built-in Mail app and Gmail app as my email clients. When I want to watch a video, I tend to run Safari to open YouTube, while to browse latest tech news, I would choose Chrome as it stores my favorite websites. To send personal emails I open up Mac’s Mail app to deal with it, while Gmail client is used to send and receive message from my work account. Now Bumpr offers me an easier way to complete the switch.
After the installation, Bumpr will ask you whether to set it up as default web browser client. Just click Yes to make it happen (so that it can opens automatically when you click a web link). Yet to make it as default email app to handle email links, you have to do the part manually (see here). Once launched, this widget can be accessed from the Menu Bar for configuring preferences and settings, and it runs in the background for instantaneous response. Now whenever you click on a web/mail link from anywhere on your Mac, you are offered multiple options to open the link with.
In the Preferences panel of Bumpr, you can customize which app appears in the menu, or just specify default apps for web links and mail links. Besides, you can make the pop-up menu activate only when holding shift and clicking on the link together.
Bumpr supports macOS 10.10 or later, and it is available on App Store for $3.99. To install Bumpr, click here and it will direct you to Mac’s App Store download page.
